CINEMA IN NIGERIA


In the Past, the Cinema thrive as a means of providing entertainment and relaxation for the people, however the rising level of in security in the land and the emergence of cable TV has affected the level of attendant in the cinema Hall. Cinema or Motion picture is visual medium that tell stories and exposes reality by using moving images. Cinema is enhanced by voices, sounds and music which tell stories that entertain people.

In Nigeria, Cinema started producing films in local agencies in the 1920s, mostly by employing mobile Cinema is a means of exhibition, religion contributed to the expansion of Cinema Culture as Christian missionaries used Cinema to propagate their believes. The emergence of Cable TV in Nigeria and varieties of channels available to the viewers directly affected the effect of the Cinema houses. The various type of programs telecast by the channels Rogers Mills, serial, sports, free blues and Music programs. For some Cinema goers to stay home, a Christian Chairman in Lagos Resident in Nigeria who acknowledges the deep line in Cinema Culture said they prefer to watch movies in the comfort of their home because of high fees charged by the Cinema houses.

The Director of glance in the National film of Nigeria DR. ARNOLD UDOKA is of the opinion that the high cost of producing movies contributes immensely to the level of Fees charged for show them. DR. UDOKA suggested that legal measures should also instituted to recognized and protect film producers. An actor MR. TOKPE TEBILLA stressed the need for more Cinema houses established. Pointing out that Cinema houses are the first window to sell any first films produced.

A film producers and an actor MR.DESMOND ELLIOT attributed the dislike in the Cinema Culture to over population in the country. Many respondents believe that the benefit of the revival of Cinema culture in the country would be beyond mere entertainment.
